Technique of the Month - April 2008

Tenada Shime (Armbar counter to cross-choke)

  1. Tori throws uke throws tori, applies choke, and uke counters with cross-choke.
  2. Grab uke's top arm at the wrist (with right hand) and elbow (with left hand) and break the choke by driving uke's arm across his body.
  3. Swing your left leg around uke's head and pull your heel in close to uke's throat.
  4. Sitting close behind uke's right shoulder, bring your legs together across uke's chest and throat, using your feet to pin uke's left arm while you bring their right arm to your chest.
  5. Raise your hips to bar uke's arm until submission.

Danzan Ryu Jujitsu's teaching system is based on selections of techniques categorized in lists, or "Boards."

Some lists in this system are restricted to black belts only. For lists of which techniques are required for each rank advancement, see our Members page.

Danzan Ryu Boards:

  • Yawara - soft techniques (basic holds and escapes)
  • Nage Te - basic throwing arts
  • Shime Te - constriction/grappling arts
  • Oku Te - deeper techniques (advanced combination arts)
  • Goshen Jitsu - self-defense arts (also known as women's yawara or women's self defense)
  • Ate Mi - striking techniques
  • Shinin - beginning black belt techniques
  • Shinyo - instructor level black belt techniques
  • Shingin - professor level black belt techniques
  • Kiai No Maki - spirit yell techniques
